Outdoor Kitchen & Entertaining Space Contractor in Charleston, SC

Custom outdoor kitchens, poolside bars, fire features, and covered dining areas — designed to make your backyard the place everyone wants to be.

Your Backyard Should Be the Best Seat in the House

In the Lowcountry, you can be outside comfortably for most of the year. The question isn’t whether your backyard can be an entertaining destination — it’s whether it’s actually set up to be one. A pool is the start. But an outdoor kitchen where you can cook without running back and forth to the house, a poolside bar where drinks stay cold and within reach, a fire feature that keeps people lingering after dark — that’s what turns a backyard into a place your family and friends choose to spend time.

At Low Country Lagoons, we design and build complete outdoor entertaining spaces in Charleston, SC and throughout the Lowcountry. Outdoor kitchens, poolside bars, fire pits, fire bowls, and covered dining areas are all designed as part of the full outdoor living picture — connected to the pool, the hardscape, and the structure design from the beginning so everything works together and flows naturally.

We serve homeowners in Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Daniel Island, Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, Johns Island, Kiawah Island, and surrounding communities. Every feature we build is specified for outdoor use in South Carolina’s coastal environment — materials that handle humidity, salt air, and heat year after year without corroding, warping, or fading.

Outdoor Entertaining Features We Design & Build

We offer four primary outdoor entertaining services — available individually or as part of a complete outdoor living project:

Outdoor Kitchen Installation — Charleston, SC

An outdoor kitchen is the highest-impact addition you can make to an outdoor entertaining space. It eliminates the trips back inside, keeps the host present with guests, and adds significant long-term value to your property. A well-designed outdoor kitchen in Charleston is usable for roughly ten months of the year — making it one of the best investments per square foot of any outdoor improvement.

We build fully custom outdoor kitchens — not pre-fabricated kits dropped into a patio. Every kitchen we design is laid out around your specific space, cooking style, and how you entertain. The surround is built to handle coastal exposure and the appliances are specified for outdoor-rated performance.

What we design and build into outdoor kitchens:

  • Built-in gas grills (Napoleon, Weber, Blaze, and Twin Eagles specified for outdoor installation)
  • Stainless steel drawer and door storage systems rated for outdoor humidity and salt air
  • Natural stone, porcelain, or stainless countertops — sealed and finished for outdoor use
  • Refrigerator and beverage center cutouts with outdoor-rated appliance installation
  • Sink with plumbing rough-in and drain connection
  • Pizza oven and smoker integration for serious outdoor cooks
  • Under-counter ice maker and kegerator rough-in options
  • Custom masonry surround in concrete block, brick, or stone veneer finish
  • Task lighting, outlet installation, and gas line connection — fully permitted

Poolside Bar Installation — Charleston, SC

A poolside bar transforms the pool area from a swimming area into a social hub. It’s a dedicated serving surface, drink station, and gathering point that keeps the party happening at the water’s edge. We build poolside bars as custom masonry or hardscape features — not prefab units — designed to coordinate with the pool coping, deck material, and surrounding landscape.

  • Custom masonry bar surrounds in concrete block with stone, tile, or stucco veneer
  • Outdoor-rated countertop surfaces: quartzite, porcelain, stainless, or concrete
  • Bar-height seating wall integration for built-in poolside stool positions
  • Drink ledge and pass-through design at water level for swimmers
  • Refrigerator and ice maker rough-in for fully functional bar service
  • Outdoor sink with plumbing connection and drain
  • Task lighting and outlet installation for evening use
  • Umbrellas, shade sails, or pergola integration for overhead coverage at bar area

Fire Features — Fire Pits & Fire Bowls in Charleston, SC

A fire feature extends the usable hours and usable season of your outdoor space. In Charleston, evenings cool down enough from October through April to make a fire genuinely welcome — and even in summer, a low gas fire bowl adds atmosphere and a visual focal point to the space without generating uncomfortable heat. We design fire features as integrated hardscape elements, not standalone accessories.

  • Custom built-in fire pits with surrounding seat wall and hardscape integration
  • Gas fire pits with dedicated line, valve, and ignition system installation
  • Wood-burning fire pit bowls with proper drainage and spark containment design
  • Linear gas fire features for contemporary pool and patio designs
  • Fire bowls on raised hardscape plinths or columns
  • Fire pit table installations for smaller patios and covered entertaining areas
  • Seat wall construction around fire features for built-in guest seating
  • Fire feature placement planning relative to wind patterns and overhead structure clearances

Covered Outdoor Dining Areas — Charleston, SC

A covered dining area — whether it’s under a pergola, a solid-roof structure, or a shade sail system — extends the usability of your outdoor entertaining space on hot summer afternoons and rainy evenings. When we design outdoor kitchens and entertaining areas, covered dining is planned into the layout so cooking, serving, and seating all flow together logically.

  • Pergola-covered dining areas with integrated ceiling fan and lighting rough-in
  • Solid-roof covered structures for full weather protection during rain
  • Shade sail and tensile shade structure design for a modern, minimalist aesthetic
  • Dining terrace hardscape with coordinated table placement layout and furniture pad design
  • Outdoor dining lighting: pendant, recessed, and string light configurations
  • Heater rough-in for covered dining areas used into cooler months
  • Screen wall integration for bug protection without sacrificing airflow

Why Design Your Outdoor Entertaining Space With Low Country Lagoons

You could hire three separate contractors — one for the outdoor kitchen, one for the fire pit, one for the bar. Or you could have one team design all of it together, coordinated with your pool and hardscape from the start. Here’s why the second approach consistently produces better results:

  • When the outdoor kitchen, bar, fire feature, and covered dining area are all planned together with the pool and hardscape, the flow between spaces is intentional. Traffic patterns make sense. Power, gas, and plumbing are routed cleanly. Everything connects.Designed as a system, not a collection of features.
  • We don’t install residential-grade appliances in outdoor kitchens. Every grill, refrigerator, and fixture we specify is rated for outdoor installation and selected for coastal humidity and salt air resistance. Products that look impressive in a showroom and fail within two seasons aren’t what we build with.Appliances and materials specified for coastal SC.
  • We coordinate gas line extension and plumbing rough-in for outdoor kitchens, bars, and fire features. You don’t need to source a separate licensed plumber or gas fitter to complete the project.Gas and plumbing handled in-house.
  • Outdoor kitchens and gas fire features typically require permits in the greater Charleston area. We determine what’s required and manage the application process — including gas line permits, electrical permits, and any HOA approvals needed.Permits managed for you.
  • No coordination overhead. No blaming between contractors. One team accountable for the full outdoor project from pool to pergola to kitchen. One team, one timeline, one point of contact.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The most common questions homeowners ask us about outdoor kitchens and entertaining spaces in Charleston:

Outdoor kitchen costs in Charleston typically range from $15,000 to $50,000+ depending on size, appliance selections, countertop material, and the complexity of the masonry surround. A basic built-in grill with stainless storage, a countertop, and a simple masonry surround starts around $15,000–$20,000 installed. Full outdoor kitchens with refrigerators, sinks, pizza ovens, and premium countertops range from $30,000 to $50,000+. We provide detailed, itemized quotes after a design consultation — no vague ranges given before we've reviewed your space.

Yes — outdoor kitchens with gas appliances, electrical connections, and plumbing all require permits in the greater Charleston area. The specific permits needed depend on your municipality and the scope of the installation. Low Country Lagoons manages all permit applications for outdoor kitchen projects, including gas line, electrical, and structural permits where required.

For coastal properties in Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Isle of Palms, Sullivan's Island, and Kiawah, we specify outdoor-rated appliances with 304 or 316 grade stainless steel — not residential-grade appliances moved outdoors. Our preferred grill brands for coastal environments include Napoleon, Blaze, and Twin Eagles. For refrigeration, we specify units designed for outdoor ambient temperature ranges, which differ significantly from indoor-rated units.

Yes — and this is almost always the right approach. When the outdoor kitchen is designed at the same time as the pool and hardscape, the gas line, plumbing, and electrical are all roughed in during the initial construction phase before the deck is poured. Adding an outdoor kitchen after the pool is complete means cutting into finished surfaces, re-routing utilities, and working around an already-set layout.

For coastal South Carolina, we typically recommend quartzite, porcelain, or stainless steel countertops. Natural granite and quartzite need proper sealing for outdoor use but hold up very well. Porcelain is non-porous, highly UV-resistant, and requires minimal maintenance. Concrete countertops can be beautiful but require consistent sealing in coastal humidity. We avoid marble for outdoor kitchens due to its sensitivity to acids and weathering.
